My Best-Laid Plans

…are in my other jeans, according to the Newsboys.  One of my favorite bits of song lyrics.  My all-time favorite being “And a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle” from “Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World” by U2.  I know I have others but they aren’t coming to mind right now.

Speaking of song lyrics, I had a cool experience this week with the CPROG yahoo group.  This is a group which discusses Christian Progressive Rock thru email.  And I mean a LOT of email.  I noticed that several days ago there had been some discussion in this group about a British prog rock group called IQ and their 2005 album, Dark Matter.  I had investigated this album several months back because I was impressed by the album cover and Amazon suggested it to me based on previous purchases.  So I began listening to those really high quality 30-second song bits that are supposed to help you decide if you like the music or not.  And I heard something about “Our lord down below” or something to that effect and it turned me off to them.  After all, there are some prog bands that are a tad on the scary side.  Well, since there was discussion about IQ in the CPROG group, I decided to bounce my experience off the other members and see if I was off-base.  Well, I was.  It was a short bit heard out of context of the song and apparently the point is about the fallen state of the world, and not “Hey, let’s all go worship Satan!”  BUT the cool thing was one of the group members who responded was none other than Randy George of Neal Morse’s band!  Neal Morse, as in THE name in neo prog who now does Christian prog.  As in one of my favorite musicians of all time.  So I was humbled and very impressed as Randy related a story of a lunch with one of the IQ band members.  So that pretty much made my week.

Thank the heavens it’s Friday!!  Have a GREAT weekend and come back Monday for a nudder toon.  ;)
