U.P.-What Was That Show?
Remember Nowhere Man? Ahh yeah, those of you who remember anxiously turning on the boob tube the night the network launched the premiere episode of Voyager (Wasn’t that also the night the network was launched? I think so…) probably also remember Nowhere Man. It was on right after Voyager and it was well written, well acted and all-around very good TV. Then after 25 episodes UPN cut it. It was the the first in a long tradition with UPN. Start a show and juuuuust when people are getting interested, CUT IT! MWUHAHAHAHAHA!! Gee, I wonder why UPN never hit it off… They cancel all their good shows and let Voyager keep going and going. OK, I don’t mind Voyager so much now that it’s over. I think they picked up the pace and had some good stores in the last couple years of it, but hoo boy, there were some rough seasons in there.
And poor Bruce Greenwood. All he gets now are slimy bad guy roles a la Double Jeopardy or big fat idiot roles like 8 Below. He had such a good thing going with Nowhere Man.
I think someone who was very important with UPN must now be an exec at Fox. And that person must have been the genius behind canceling Tru Calling and Firefly. And I know the list goes on. Great job, TV execs. Way to keep the pulse of the public. May there be a burning lump of coal in your alcohol-soaked stocking this year.
Oh well. As long as Fox keeps making 24, CBS keeps making The Unit, and Ron Moore keeps getting Battlestar Galactica episodes out there, then I’ll probably be happy. Doesn’t take much.
And for those last-minute shoppers out there like me, remember…an old UPN one-disc complete series could be just what that special someone is hoping for this year. At least it could have been if it hadn’t been canceled.

Hey, I just got a pre-christmas gift of the Firefly series that you mentioned from Birgit and it is truly awesome! I should mention that I had seen a couple of episodes while visiting my sister this summer and asked Birgit to get it for me. What an amazing show and I love that there is a whole fan effort to get them to continue the series ala-trek. We just watched the episode last night where the hoodlum tells captain Mal that he won’t stop until he gets him and the last thing he sees will be his blade, to which Mal responds “darn” and kicks him into the stardrive! I just love that guy

Firefly was a great show and Serenity was a great movie. I was a latecomer to the phenomenon, tho and still have yet to see all of the episodes. I’m getting there. I gotta get me one of those DVD sets to show my support. I just gotta keep hoping one of these days it will have a glorius return.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Randall!!!
