Hexapus Be Gone
Well…at least Alan does look kinda perdy now.
Now that 2006 is over, it’s that time when we see all the top 10 lists for the previous year get plastered all over the place. And of course tons and tons of websites have top 10 albums of 2006 lists. And yes, I’m planning to put one together that’s kind of tongue-in-cheek, cuz I didn’t listen to near enough albums last year to put a respectable list together. But I wanna have some fun doing one anyway. Not sure how I’ll do it, yet. Was thinking of doing something animated in Flash, but probably won’t have much time in the next few weeks.
So anywayz, the reason I bring this up, is that I get this email from the Newsboys’ email newsletter that their album “Go” was named Album of the Year by New Release Tuesday. Here is the page that lists their top 10 for 2006. Now, you know I love me some Newsboys. Big fan. Big, big fan. But I’m sorry, when I saw this top 10 list, I had to GROAN. “Go” is number one and number two is…”Chaotic Resolve” by Plumb??? And Jars of Clay’s “Good Monsters” is number 5?? Can’t say I agree…
“Go” is a good album. Don’t get me wrong. It’s fine and dandy. At least as good as “Love Liberty Disco”. But album of the year it is not. And I have “Chaotic Resolve”. I really enjoyed Plumb’s “Candycoatedwaterdrops” but when I opened up “Chaotic Resolve” and took a listen, I was severely disappointed. And in the packaging, too. The CD booklet pictures are ridiculous “glamour” photos of miss Tiffany Arbuckle, one of which has her puckering up at the camera. My first reaction was “This is what Christian CDs look like now?” And the music is nothing extraordinary. A remake of “Pray For Me” was about the most exciting track, and it’s pretty underwhelming. The song “I Can’t Do This” repeats that phrase so many times that it makes me think of a whiny kid.
Eesh. I can think of a dozen albums more deserving of the top 2 slots. Jeremy Camp’s “Beyond Measure” is outstanding. The new Switchfoot is awesome. Jars of Clay’s “Good Monsters” deserves to be a lot higher than number 5. P.O.D.’s “Testify” is incredible.
Anyway, I’ll shut up now. Anybody got any ideas for 2006 album of the year?

What about Wierd Al “Back to Lynwood”? ok ok odd pick. I haven’t bought too many Christian CD’s this past year (have not bought very many CD’s this year~!), but I do agree with you about Jeremy Camp.

LOL, I haven’t heard “Back to Lynwood”, I’m going to have to go look on iTunes now… I have a gift card from Christmas that I still haven’t used yet thanks to my friend Jen!
After I had this one finished I had an idea for a cartoon that could have gone before it. Picture the same first frame, Alan takes the little pill, third frame nothing happens, fourth frame Alan is unchanged and Zifgon says “Oh, that was a Midol.”
Huh? Huuuuh??

nice! My pick for album of the year is Johnny Cash American V: A Hundred Highways. It’s amazing, although hard to listen to knowing he had only days to live as he made it. If you haven’t already, be sure and check out the “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e0EQlQXoEo
