Incorruptible
Another PC innards toon. The Melrose Place goings-on inside your PC, if you will.
Also, a little religiously tainted to go along with the Holiday weekend. Which was never Easter in my Dad’s house when I was growing up. No, Easter’s a bad word. It’s Ressurrection Sunday. And I don’t disagree, I much prefer that name myself.
I was giving a “Smallville” episode a fraction of my attention this weekend as I was in and out of the house, arranging the sprinkler outside and boiling hot dogs at the same time (yes, my cooking talents do know very restrictive limits (and no, I didn’t get any grass in with the hot dogs.).) and was somewhat disappointed by the ending of it. What was cool about it was that the other Duke of Hazard (TV, not shameful movie) was a guest star as Pa Kent’s best friend politician who was trying to hold his office against Lex Luthor’s attempt to run for it. They even had this Dodge Charger moment when the dude slid in thru the door window and then they did this jump in the car with the view from under the vehicle. But it was blue instead of orange. But anyway…back to the point… The politician friend was a hero to Clark Kent because he was supposedly such a moral and ethical man. Until they found out he frequented an “underground” strip club. So the story was about being let down by your heroes.
The closing scene has Clark and Lex talking about how this man was far from perfect and Lex brought up King David of the Old Testament. He said that after killing the giant Goliath, David saw his best friend’s wife bathing and fell in lust with her, so he sent his best friend off to battle to be killed so he could have his wife to himself. And then Clark said “They kind of leave that part out, don’t they?” And then Lex went on to lower Clark’s expectations of heroes saying that no hero can ever be perfect.
I have to take issue. David did not plot to take Bathsheba for himself right after killing Goliath. I’m confident there were several years there before that took place. And second, I believe a man by the name of Jonathan, son of King Saul was David’s best friend. I don’t think the Bible ever gives us the impression that David even knew who Uriah the Hittite was before he spied his wife bathing from his palace. So they got the story a little bit off. And leaving this part out of the telling of David’s life? Not in the church I go to. Not in my Bible. It’s all there. All you have to do is read it. And no hero is perfect? This weekend we remembered a hero who was and is perfect. And it’s because of that fact that we can have hope today.

they probably get the idea uriah and david being good friends as uriah was one of the “mighty men of david” in 2 Samuel 23:8–39 so its probable that they were actually close friends having been together for much of David’s fighting life.

Oh, OK. It’s been a while since I read the Samuels. Good point.
I’m not sure the Smallville writers even looked anything up tho, they were so hazy and off on their details.
Thanks for pointint that out, I looked on the internet for clues but couldn’t find anything that indicated David and Uriah were buddies at all. Guess I needed to look harder.
