Actually....I may be wrong about this, but I do think that Garry Trudeau has been unbiased in the past. At least in terms of political party and party members. I think he's stood firm on his personal beliefs, however. He clearly is a liberal, but I can remember Clinton being made fun of during his presidency in Doonesbury.

But now that I say that I think I see your point. Trudeau wouldn't put down pro-lifers and environmentalists equally, for example because he doesn't agree with both of them on principle. I guess my point of view on this whole thing is trying not to be biased in terms of Republicans are always right or even conservatives are always right. Thank you, Mr. Falwell (And yes, I do mean "Mr." - http://home.att.net/~jackthompson/page42.htm).

So, I think we agree. You won't see cartoons here which are centered on not being offensive just for the sake of "being fair". When I'm addressing an issue I have strong feelings about, I will make no apologies. I sort of make an apology this time because I believe there are a lot of good Democrats out there. And considering our current political climate, I hope the Democratic party chooses a presidential candidate for 2008 who is NOT extremely polarizing. A conservative-leaning Democrat with a great deal of patience and sympathy for our current military situation would be a Godsend. Again, my opinion. And it ain't gunna happen.

You're right. BUT I don't want people getting the idea that I put down Democrats all the time and by contrast support Republicans. I'm so sick and tired of both of them it's ridiculous. I used to be a big fan of Republicans, and locally, I tend to support them more since they're the ones who have lived in Idaho forever and I feel have the right local priorities compared to the liberals who move here, live here for 2 years while getting their pictures taken fishing and then run for office. But I am sick of Republicans on a national scale failing to stay firm on some issues, over-rewarding big business successes, and not caring enough about some domestic issues. My take is that the strength of the Democrat is domestic issues while the strength of the Republican USUALLY is military/foreign affairs.

So it's not that I want to even the playing field for the purpose of not offending anyone. I want people who read my strip to have an accurate understanding of my vioce. I ripped on Democrats, that's fine, but the truth is I don't sing praises of Republicans either. I tend to agree with the Republican party more often, but I am also frequently ashamed of them.

Some people might think that as a Christian I should be a proud Republican by default. I'm very much a conservative, but I don't look to the U.S. government as my moral authority. That's the trouble with the Anglican church. The only people in history who were able to get away with having their religious and national leader be the same position were the Israelites before King Saul. And they rejected God as their king. No human could ever fill that joint role of religious AND political leader successfully. At least that's my *opinion*.

who says you have to be fair? i dont want to see middle ground, offend nobody, ride the fence toons. call things how you see them, thats why i've always been drawn to certain strips. was Garry Trudeau unbiased? how about Johnny Hart? even Watterson clearly communicated his take on things.

on that note, HAPPY FRIDAY! i'm jealous that you get to see Scott in concert. its been a while since i've had that opportunity.
