Mike Wieringo
August 14th, 2007I just learned this morning that comic book artist Mike Wieringo passed away Sunday night, August 12th of heart failure. From the posts across the web, it seems he was dearly loved by fans and fellow artists such as Scottie Young (not a link for kids), who he apparently stuck up for when Scottie recieved criticism for his drawing style.Â
Personally, the whole reason I started buying comic books again recently was to see what other artists out there were doing. To break out of my confined sense of style and even what art itself can do. I’m still learning the names of comic book artists, and the last time I was in my local store, the owner, Ken, commented that one of the books I was buying was drawn by “Ringo”. That was the first time I noticed this name and I have yet to even read the book with all of the stuff that happened last week. So now it will be read with regret that I won’t be looking for his name on future books. I came looking at comics to tap into the creative spirit there and I’m saddened that that spirit has suffered loss this week.
