Just saw this article tonight and it struck me as extremely funny because the very Blu-Ray player they have pictured is now selling for $299.  With a free Spiderman 3 disc.  Plus 5 more free movies by mail because of the winter Blu-Ray promotion.  Back in May, Sony scoffed at a misreported strategy of cutting player prices down to $299 by the end of the year.  They say oh, no no no.  We meant that would be the point at which the average consumer would consider buying a player.  And yet here we are at the predicted time and there exists a player made by Sony at that price point.  So was the “misquote” actually the correct strategy?  Or is Sony giving a little ground in the format war?  Hmmm…
