From Nerd Ashes
…The Phoenix rises…
Actually in all honesty, I was watching the live coverage on the Science Channel tonight. So, what does that make me in contrast to the nerds on the TV screen? A much less intelligent, less financially blessed nerd.
Yeah, instead of the nerd that talks to robots on another planet…I’m the nerd that draws unpublished comic strips.
I’m going to bed.

Cool, I just got back from my trip to Phoenix. The city unfortunately, not the lander ;). While I was there I saw a full front-page article on it that talked about it being a “UA” project and thought “United Airlines?” “United Artists?” Nope, wrong on both counts of course as it was “University of Arizona.” Pretty cool stuff. So, btw, what did YOU think of Indy 4? We all went to see it yesterday and I agreed with the People mag review that Birgit read to me after we got home. If I hadn’t already been familiar with the Indy theme music, Harrison Ford the characters and the whole Indy lore I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it nearly as much as I did. Oh, and we all 5 agreed that if this movie had starred Shia and Harrison hadn’t been in it we would NOT have gone to see it! The only scene he was in that made me smile was when Indy took his fedora away from him!

I enjoyed Indy 4 overall and had fun watching it. Shia did not annoy me in the least because he didn’t act like has in his other blockbusters. However, the movie didn’t feel totally right to me. The pacing felt off and I think the reason for that is the opening scene was off-formula for Indy movies. The booby-trapped jungle tomb, the gunfight in the Chinese night club, young Indiana Jones’ chase through train cars… This one had none of that spunk to kick it off. It had a little bit of a fight and chase in the warehouse, but compared to 1-3, it was too little too late to make it feel Indy.
But again, I did like the movie. I just think all of the other ones are better.

Oh yeah, and also, I was very disappointed in the music. I had been thinking of picking up the soundtrack because when “The Last Crusade” was new, I bought the tape and loved it. The music in Indy 4 had the old familiar tune, but like the movie it lacked the usual excitement, I thought. For example, the music during the train chase in “Last Crusade” was fantastic and really helped to make the scene feel fun and action-packed. I remember that piece and the music that went along with the tank/horse scene toward the end as being my favorite ones. None of the music in “Crystal Skull” was memorable to me.
