Ikthus Rock Band

June 19th, 2008

OK, now that the family’s been playing Rock Band for awhile and I’ve been watching the Harmonix forum for news about new DLC, I think it’s only natural to form a mental wish list for future Rock Band content.  And my little pet wish-list is of course Christian rock themed.  So I began thinking what a Christian Rock Band song list would look like.  In order to mirror the philosophy behind the original Rock Band content, I think you would have to have some golden oldies, some hip new rockers, some quirky out-there stuff, and a fair bit of mainstream radio hits.  So this is what I came up with:

Alien - Third Day

Reality - Newsboys

God Gave Rock and Roll To You - Petra

Flood - Jars of Clay

Forever - Chris Tomlin

The Great Adventure - Steven Curtis Chapman

I Want to be a Clone - Steve Taylor

Field of Flowers - Sixpence None the Richer

Lamu - Michael W. Smith

Bye Bye Babylon - White Heart

Fireproof - Pillar

Jesus Freak - DC talk

Lead Me On - Amy Grant

To Hell With the Devil - Stryper

Boycott Hell - DeGarmo & Key

Made To Love - Toby Mac

Boom - P.O.D.

Rawkfist - Thousand Foot Krutch

Dare You to Move - Switchfoot

Barlow Girls - Superchick

Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music? - Geoff Moore & the Distance

So You Wanna Go Back to Egypt - Keith Green

Never Gunna Be As Big As Jesus - Audio Adrenaline

Paper Thin Hymn - Andberlin

The Show - Hawk Nelson

The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything - Relient K

Beyond Belief - Petra

I’m sure there are several that would be great Rock Band experiences that I have forgotten, so please, feel free to chime in with what you think would be awesome new content for the game.

    Amy Grant? AMY GRANT!?

Hey, “Lead Me On” is by far her best album. It’s a great song, too, and would be a lot of fun to play on Rock Band.

  3. brian Says:

    dude, Amy Grant!????

  4. nergon Says:

    Nice. Keep hecklin’, cowboy. ;)

  5. nergon Says:

OK I changed my mind. “1974″ would be better than “Lead Me On.”

I Am on the Rock - Petra
    Desert Rose- Whiteheart
Not Gonna Bow - Russ Taff
Lala Land - All Star United
    Secret - Audio Adrenaline
    Power of Love - Guardian
Hit the Floor - Thousand Yard Krutch
    Shine - Newboys
Liquid - Jars of Clay (i’d pick Flood but you already did)
Run to the Battle - Steve Camp
    Banner Man - Steve Taylor

These all rock, would love to relive them through rockband.

notice the distinct lack of Amy Grant on my list? :)

    STEVE CAMP?!?

    Just kiddin. :)

You make a valid argument that Amy Grant doesn’t rock. That’s true for sure. But she is an icon in the history of Christian music and she does have that one album that was a great (my opinion I know) soft/pop rock one. And you have to have some slower, easier songs to start out with.

What about Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill, Daniel Amos, Sweet Comfort Band, Second Chapter of Acts, The Rez Band or even (shudder) Undercover? I have to credit Undercover for being so bad they made me look to more talented bands with a christian message and I bought “October” by U2. I told my brother’s friends at the time (who had not yet even heard of U2 if you can imagine that ;) that if they wanted to hear real music they should check this band out. Bono is my all-time favorite worship leader! Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GyTdo1nGO0

    Superpowers - Five Iron Frenzy
    Original Superman - Pillar
My Girlfriend - RelientK (ok, or Pressing On…heh)
God is Not a Secret (remix with Toby Mac) - Newsboys
    Deeper - Delerious?
    Butterfly - 7 Day Jesus (I’m a chick…leave me alone)
    Anthem - Superchic[k]

  10. Julie Says:

Oh and I think “Made to Live” would be more fun than “Dare You to Move”

Good suggestions! Banner Man is an excellent Steve Taylor suggestion. Gotta have some Steve Taylor, separate from Newsboys. Definitely should have some Guardian, too. I’ve heard of Sweet Comfort Band, only because I was a Brian Duncan fan for awhile, but I don’t know any of their music. Definitely would have to include something from some of those early pioneers. Randy Stonehill is a requirement. And Larry Norman. Doing a Christian Rock Band without Rez Band would be a sin. And that’s just weird. I really like Butterfly by 7 Day Jesus. I bought that CD for that song alone. So I wouldn’t hassle you about that at all. And Anthem by Superchic[k] is a great, fun song for young Christian womenfolk. So that would be really really cool. Relient K would have to make an appearance also, I just don’t know their stuff enough to know which song. I only have the first CD by those doods.

  12. Julie Says:

Pressing On would probably be my favorite for RelientK…My Girlfriend is just really funny.

Well, if we’re doing steve taylor, Moshing Floor can’t be left out. It is after all ROCK BAND. And to agree with the Amy Grant sentiments, her songs do have a distinct lack of the instruments that are present in the game. Which means I’d have to toss out MWS as well. Lamu (and Smitty in general) is awesome, but I’m trying to picture that shredding guitar riff during the verse, and it’s just not coming to me.

    Here’s my additions:

    Broken - 12 Stones
Just the Same - Big Dismal
    Too Pretty - Big Dismal
    Breathe into Me - Red
Weirdo - All Star United (ok mostly because i like the name. It makes me smile!)
Free Ride - as interpreted by Audio Adrenaline
We’re a Band - Audio A (cause you need something to make you like Still Alive again)
Bad Attitude - Noisy Little Sunbeams
Love and Company - Hokus Pick
    Somewhere North - Caedmon’s Call
Daring Daylight Escape - Caedmon’s Call
    Extreme Days - Toby Mac
Something Somewhere - Keaggy, King, Dente
Dive in - Stephen Curtis Chapman
Boycott Hell - Newsboys (but the original by D&K? might be fun too!)
I May Be Old, But at Least I’m Not Like All Those Other Old Guys - 5 Iron Frenzy

And the 6 Song local artist showcase in Seattle
Lie, Lie, Lie - Poor Old Lu
All Pretty for the TV - Poor Old Lu
    Sickly - Poor Old Lu
Tried and True - Poor Old Lu
    Complain - Poor old Lu
Where Were All of You - Poor Old Lu

Wow! My Short list got long, and I didn’t even get to X-sinner or Tourniquet. Shame.
